Wine Hints?

Here are a few wine tips and tricks that will make your life just a little bit easier.   Nothing earth-shattering, but you will wonder how you ever got by without them.  Just to get these out of the way, we'll tackle stains, as everyone has their favourite remedy—non of which work particularly well.  Then I'll tell you about two (cheap) gadgets you just have to have.

Wine Stains

Everyone knows how to deal with these, don't they?  They don't!   White wine on red wine does not—really—do it.  Salt does not really do it.  But window and glass cleaning liquid does.  Every single time.  I have yet to find one of them that does not work.

Mr. Muscle (Window and Glass) to the rescue!  Try it.   Particularly when you've just knocked a glass of red wine over onto your boss' luxurious, white plush pile carpet.  Don't be dissuaded; don't allow anyone to come near it with the salt.  Insist on Mr. Muscle and spray away.  Be firm!  Your future is hanging by a thread...

It's almost as easy as that.  The only trick is not to use too much of the stuff, as you don't want to spend the next half hour working the resulting foam out of the carpet.  Spray enough to bleach the stain away—you'll literally see it disappearing before your very eyes—and then mop up with a damp cloth (with plenty of clean water to rinse it in, as you go).

In four easy steps:

  1. Soak up the worst of the spill with a thick wad of paper towels.
  2. Spray the stain with your favourite window cleaner.
  3. Soak up the bleached stain with a damp cloth, rinsing frequently.
  4. Blend the area of spill into its surrounds with your damp cloth and fresh water.  This is important!

That's it: stain gone!   Trust me.
